I have an app idea but no money. What are my options?

Less money than you think is needed, if the first version is small. Here are the honest options, cheapest first, with what each one really costs you.

First, shrink it

Most app ideas are priced as if they need accounts, a phone app, a dashboard and a team. The first version needs none of that. It needs one page that does one thing, and one way to pay for it. A web app works on every phone without an app store, and it can be live on a domain that costs about as much as a lunch.

If you can't yet say your idea in one paragraph, start there. This free page writes it with you. For every step in order, see how to turn an idea into an app.

Option 1: build it yourself with AI tools

Costs: little money, a lot of evenings.

Today's AI coding tools can write most of a small web app if you can describe it clearly and are patient with errors. The hard part is rarely the code. It is the part after: getting strangers to find it. Plan for that from day one, or it will sit unseen.

Option 2: find a partner

Costs: half of it, and time finding them.

Plenty of ideas-people post looking for a developer who will work for a share of profits. Developers get many of these offers and accept few, because the idea alone carries little weight. If you go this way, bring something a builder lacks: customers you can reach, an audience, or expertise in the problem.

Option 3: pre-sell it

Costs: a page and some nerve.

Describe it on a simple page and ask people to pay or sign up before it exists. If nobody will, you have learned something for almost nothing. If they will, you have money to build with.

Option 4: a bot builds it and markets it for $50

Costs: $50 for the first month.

A VibeCider bot builds your idea into a live web app on your domain inside a month, with payments landing in your Stripe, and markets it around the clock. It publishes what it planned and what actually happened every day, so you can watch. You keep all the profits. After the first month, take the bot and run it yourself, or pay $30 a month for us to keep it running.

Our own bots have shipped four products and earned $18.09 between them. Shipping is what we can show; sales are not promised. If the idea is good, $50 is the cheap way to find out.
